To all the newer followers of this blog who have not yet received your unreleased models, please drop me a line and I promise they'll find their way under your tree!

We've got lots of great new stuff in store for the new year, so I hope you'll hop back on the bus!

And Now For Something Completely Different...

...A Bit of VEGAS MAGIC!
Taking a short break from the heroes to finish up something I've had in the works for some time now. It's a simple, but very satisfying build. I really love Googie style signage and architecture. Who knows, this may lead to another line of models....

A Hot Pair for a Scorching Summer!

It's been a broiler here in Ol' Sunny Southern Cal, so I've decided to acknowledge that fact by posting a pair of red hot items. First up, The Flame, a Golden Age hero from Fox Publications. This guy predated the Human Torch and had some pretty cool, er hot, superpowers. You'll find him on the main page. Then, as a special treat, scroll to the bottom and click over to the Gallery page where you'll find Alfredo Podesta's reworking of my Human Torch model. His work is really excellent and I hope to be able to post more.

"Born on Monday..."

...well, Friday, actually :)

Your response to the Captain America playset was very favorable, so here's hoping our new diorama will bring you even more joy! It's a sort of "What If?" tableau, featuring the Golden Age Green Arrow and Speedy squaring off against ol' Solomon Grundy circa 1944. This match-up did happen, but not in this era, so it's lot's of fun!! Get it HERE.

Once again, thanks go out to my partner JP Cote for his excellent work!

Somethin' Special This Weekend...

Fun stuff this weekend!!! Be there to get yours...

Take a Look at "The Vision!"

Here's a little gem from the able pens of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. Direct from the "World of Smoke and Mists" comes the interplanetary crime fighter Aarkus - Destroyer of Evilaka "The Vision." This is one of Simon and Kirby's earliest efforts, predating Captain America by four months. The character ran in Marvel Mystery Comics for some 35 issues - a pretty healthy run by GA standards, and has even appeared in more recent publications. You can get him HERE.

A Patriotic Pair for the 4th!!

Here's a little fun for the Fourth. Two classic characters with a patriotic theme: Liberty Belle and the Fighting Yank!  Hope you all have a great holiday, and who knows? Maybe in-between the barbeque and the sparklers, you might have time to build one of these little beauties. I mean, come on, you gotta love a character who fights crime in a tri-corner hat and pilgrim-style buckled shoes! Get them both HERE.

The New Deal

Friends of the site, old and new, I would like to streamline things a bit. If every Subscriber and Follower also became a Member, I could send you advanced notices, previews and special gifties all at once. This would streamline communication which could lead to developing a community of some sort.

So here's my new proposal. Become a Member and receive two closed models of your choice ( if you still need any), or an unreleased model. Plus a second bonus unreleased model, and even something else extra special! Tease...Tease...

The "Join This Site" button is just down there on your right...

A Star-Spangled Post

To kick off the month, here are a pair of heroes who were members of the Seven Soldiers of Victory, the All-Star Squadron and the JSA - the Star-Spangled Kid and Stripesy!! This model is a "twofer," so you get double the fun in one! It's a BETA, so if you build it, send me quality photos and get lotsa perks! Find the model here.

Better LATE Than Never, I Guess....

Finally got a chance to get this posted...sorry for the wait... To coincide (sort of) with the announcement of Chris Evans' role in the upcoming Captain America film, G.A.S.P. gives you the "Captain America vs. the Axis" diorama! It features Ol' Cap duking it out with a pair of Nasty Nazis. There's even room for Bucky if you want to include him! In fact, you could place any character in Cap's place, put their nameplate on the base and let them do battle with those awful Axis a-holes! This model inaugurates a new Dioramas & Playsets section on the website, and there are more cool items in the works for future release!

Special New Release This Weekend!

We here at G.A.S.P. will be dropping an extra-special new model kit this weekend. Not to give it away, but it will establish a new category on the site, and it comes hot on the heels of a rather Marvel-ous announcement, as covered here in the most excellent blog  The Comic Book Catacombs. Stay tuned...

Kool Figure MASH-UP!

I'm delighted to share that Alfredo , a very gifted designer, has created a most excellent figure sculpture template, and has "painted it" with textures I worked up for the G.A.S.P. figure.

It's a beautiful thing indeed!

He's begun a line of models, with plans in the works to release them on the site!

More about that soon...exciting!

HAWKGIRL Alights in G.A.S.P. Land!!!

There is some controversy as to when and even if Hawkgirl actually joined the JSA, but I believe her to be a member in good standing, and a strong Golden Age heroine, so I have brought her to the site. I regret I have not had the chance to build her yet, so she is a BETA. If you build her, please send photos and let me know of any glitches you encounter. I hope you enjoy building this winged wench! Download her here.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

There's a new figure coming this weekend. No hints this time except she's a JSA member. Also, keep your eyes peeled for an extra special post later this month...

Kudos to Chris Ware

I want to take a moment to thank my lucky stars, and comic artist/genius Chris Ware for allowing me to use the template he created (with minor modifications) as the basis for the models on the GASP website. For those who aren't familiar with Mr. Ware, he is a multi-talented comic artist with multiple Eisner, Harvey and National Cartoonist Society Awards to his credit. You can read a bit about him at Wikipedia, and check out his on-line directory The ACME Novelty Archive. For a real treat, pick up a copy of his excellent graphic novel Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth. You can also find his original Bat-Man model bundled with Chip Kidd's book, Batman Collected. Once again, thank you Mr. Ware.

Beware the HANGMAN!

Here's the new post I promised. A charming character from the folks at MLJ Comics -The Hangman! A hero born in vengeance and bathed in blood! Unlike his modern-day counterparts, the Hangman had no issue with terminating evildoers, often in rather grisly ways. This figure is a BETA, so if you build him, please let me know of any glitches you find, and send pix for the Gallery. It could be worth a few bonus models :) Enjoy!

NEW POST ALERT!

Keep your eyes open this weekend for a new post. I won't give away exactly who'll be showing up...but here's a hint. He's the younger brother of another non-JSA Golden Age hero, and he has an ominous moniker. Any guesses?

How Do I Follow Myself?!

For some reason, Blogger won't let me send messages to Followers unless I become one myself. This places me in a rather existential quandary...If I am following myself, who's leading? Hmmmm.... (sound of one hand clapping in the distance, as a tree falls in the empty woods...)

Budding New Comic Artists?

J.P. Cote's graphic design students recently completed a project designing new superheroes using the Ware template. Here's one student's excellent design: Oxide! Head over to the G.A.S.P. Gallery to see more...

Special Deal for Subscribers!

Many of you have expressed dismay when you miss a model. Yes, I do repost, but only once per month, which means you could wait up to a year for the model you want. But here's my Special Deal. If you subscribe to this blog, I will send you the closed model of your choice PLUS a special unreleased model! How cool is that? So, what are you waiting for? The button is right over there --->

UPDATE 2/25: For some reason I don't always receive email notification when you subscribe, so your best bet is to send me an email announcing your subscription and I will reply back with the models :)

....or you can become a Follower and I'll be notified automatically when your icon appears. However, an email is still helpful in case I don't notice your icon right away.
